I have not yet seen any "build it yourself" 5 phase drives...

If you find any, PLEASE let me know! (I know where there are boxes of
5 phase motors for cheap). These drives tend to be pricey, as they
are aimed at the high-end "motion control" market.

Depending on the motor size, your pocketbook depth, and your desired
use, you may be better off trading them for more common motor(s).
