The gound wire is really extra. You can leave it unconnected, or put
it to either ground. It just sounds like it is for shielding the case
or providing a protective ground in case the stepper is bolted to
a chassis or whatever and the operator might touch it. This would only
be a problem if the chassis etc become 'hot' due to a frayed wire etc.
Leaving it unconnected wont affect operation.
