I REMEMBER (oops, caps lock) seeing on this list a link to a site once that
had 'block boxes' that could take a quadrature input off an encoder and
output a step and direction pulse... i suppose it could be attached to a
encoder with a knob, to manually drive steppers, but this would only work
for a system that had 'true' feedback, like the servo-to-go card or that
PPMC that pico-systems has, right? does anyone remember that link? have
any additional thoughts?---Dave L.

connect to PCs. It might be possible to adapt these to CNC control.
Here's a $99 example:
http://www.epinions.com/Contour_Design_SP_JNS_ShuttlePRO_Multimedia_Controll
er__Mousing_Devices_SP_JNS/display_~latest_prices
THIS is quite an interesting device too:
http://www.epinions.com/S0200562-Magellan_3D_Classic
It says "Advanced input device for interactive motion control of 3D graphic
objects in CAD/CAM, CAE, & visual simulation applications. The Magellan
provides intuitive and precise interactive motion control of three
dimensional graphic objects in up to six degrees of freedom. (x, y , z,
pitch, roll, & yaw).Opto-electric 9-button Designed for the HP UX platform."
Price listed is $35?
