Hmmm, cute idea. It definitely solves the problem of pumping up the
output of the regulated supply, and gives a surge reserve. The
possible downfall is the diode switching on and off as the motor load
varies could cause some instability of the regulator. it almost certainly
would work, but might cause some voltage fluctuations. These would
probably be small, but the current surges could be bigger. Still, if you
already HAVE the supply, it would be worth trying it.
