Servo as Lathe Spindle Motor

Mariss,
Would it be possible to use one of your Geko 3xx drivers to run a 2
HP servo motor as a lathe spindle. If I run a pot, or the analog
output from a PC, into the error input, not from an encoder, such
that the error never goes to zero, would that work?
A positive error would run the spindle forward while a negative error
would turn the spindle backwards with infinite speed control. If I
know what I think I know, the open loop nature of this system would
also be self correcting for increases/ decreases in load. Right?
Just a thought.
Comments please.
Thank you
Hugh Smith
