Pole Changing motors?

Hello all.
I am looking at a brochure for a Deckel mill that I am considering
purchasing.
It lists the spindle motor as a "pole changing motor with brake".
This motor is 6hp.
Unfortunately, that is all the info I have on it and I was wondering
what type of motor this is likely to be?
Would it be AC, DC, 1 or 3ph and/or some Stepper or Servo
arrangement?
I am pretty un-educated in motors and motor theory and I know all
the experts reside here.
What I am trying to decide is if a motor labeled as such would have
to be under some sort of electronic control, or would use a standard
shop current or rectified shop current?
