Brad,
Centers?
Do you mean work stops? Or Depth stops? (I've even seen 'em called
spindle stops.)
These DO expand in the spindle bore. There is often a threaded rod to
set the length that a piece of stock placed in the chuck will
protrude.
Collet types screw into the internal threads of some collet types
(5C, for example)
I've always just made the spindle kind, but the collet type are in
the typical distributors catalogs... MSC, Travers, Grizzly, Enco,
KBC, etc.
If you were looking under "centers" you probably missed 'em, as they
are usually near the collets; and/or chucks in most catalogs I have
seen. I was just looking through the Royal catalog myself, and didn't
notice them either. But I was looking for/at the 5C collet closers
for my slantbed lathe project...
Hope this helps,
Ballendo
