I've had a Fluke 199 for about 2 years now. LOVE IT! The PC serial link
option is also very
much worth it. I'd recommend if you get a 199 get the full accessory pack
with the case. They really
put some thought into this setup. The case won't even open if you have it
upside down which prevents
spilling goodies you may have in the lower bins out.
The serial link does let you capture waveforms and send them to other people
for review.
It's a VERY handy instrument with the multimeter, scope and data recorder
built into the same box.
I would love to have one of the new 199C color models but this display is
fine. It's far and away better
than the older Fluke 97 ? I had before.
It certainly makes working on automobiles easier. CNC type projects are well
within it's capabilities.
I've also got a Tektronix TDS 360 that quite frankly just collects dust
since I've had the Fluke 199.
The Fluke 123 would be a little limited as a scope for general
troubleshooting modern digital circuits.
I would suggest a used 100 Mhz desktop scope before a 20 Mhz portable scope
unless you just really had to have the portability.
