Group,

i hope this isn't straying too far OT, my apologies if it does. i've
been prototyping small parts for rc models with my maxnc, and i'm
coming to realize the machine's limitations in terms of rigidity and
power. while looking for industrial quality machines if found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1734135641

the machine is not functioning, so i thought it may be an opportunity
to buy it for a reasonable amount and retrofit it for PC control.

i will inspect the machine (as much as i know how) for mechanical
integrity this morning (in Santa Cruz), then visit the manufacturer
in the afternoon (San Jose) to try to determine it's value by
comparing it to the cost of a new machine. i'm hoping that some of
you will render an opinion about the value of the machine, and the
viability and affordability of a PC control retrofit. specifically,
will i end up spending more to get this machine working than i would
spend on some similar alternative? i realize that putting a dollar
amount on such a vaguely described setup is difficult, so ballpark
figures and basic opinions will be greatly appreciated.

i need a machine capable of making small parts in limited quantities
with reasonable accuracy, and i feel like i'm pushing the envelope of
the maxnc even when cutting soft materials (aluminum).

thanks,

patrick
