For the most part, If your hardware is compatable with linux, the
install is a breeze these days, with the advent of the BDI. I have
been running it for a few of years now, since there was not
much available when I started. Until Master5 came along, it
was the only controller available with a nice GUI that did not
require some external hardware. I guess I use it because that's
what I started on and I'm comfortable with it. The biggest
stumbling block is learning a new operating system. I still don't
know much about linux, as the only thing I use it for is the
controller. Start it up, put the floppy in with my gcode and
hit run. It is somewhat cryptic in the setup department but that
should change soon as the documentation is about to be rewritten.
I don't design on the same computer that runs my machine
since it's in the garage. Not a very comfortable environment
to spend a few hours on a cad program. Also, the price is right.
