There are no encoders. There is a rather fancy mirror motor in the
laser section, and a fairly large brushless motor that moves all the
paper handling works. It is a relative of the stepper motor, but rather
coarse for normal stepper use. There are high voltage power supplies,
photo sensors, gears, shafts, all sorts of useful stuff. Watch out for
the toner, though, it can make a HUGE mess.
