EMC LeadScrew compensation

I was wondering how many of you have tried the lead screw
compensation in EMC. I wanted to know how easy or hard it was to use
and if it worked well.
Also how did you measure the error in your screw. And what
increments do you have to measure it in to have any worth while
effect.
A couple of ideas i had for measuring error was using 123 blocks and
a dial indicator...(my 123 blocks were about $5 each and my dial
indicator $15) may not be up to the job....
Also i do have some DRO i think are glass scale.
