Hi knowlegable ones,
I'm looking for pulleys and belts for a servo motor installation on my
BP clone. I'm planning a 2:1 reduction for the motors I have selected
and a belt tooth pitch of 5mm and a belt width of 15mm. This belt well
and truly handles the motor power/speed requirements unlike some of the
smaller ones from http://www.sdp-si.com/ who sell 5mm pitch belts but
not the associated pulleys (only as custom orders).
I've looked at several brands of 5mm belts and pulleys including:
TB Woods: http://www.tbwoods.com/products/Level5.asp?GID=86&PID=80
and also Dayco/CPT Belts: http://www.cptbelts.com/
I think both use the same Dayco belts, but their own pulleys. (My
understanding is that RPP is somewhat superior to HTD belts with respect
to backlash.) Both describe 5mm pitch belts available in 15mm widths
and various lengths, based on c-c and pulley diameter etc. but they all
seem to use steel or cast iron pulleys. I'm a bit concerned about all
that extra rotational inertia and wondered if others have had any
experience with these types of belts or other kinds I may not know
about. Anyone using aluminum pulleys with sychronous belts?
Then there is Gates: http://www.gates.com/index.cfm?location_id=557 with
their GT2 line of synchronous belts but they start at 8mm pitch which
seems too big for an 800 oz-in motor.
Any thoughts?
Cheers, Peter
