The 2.2 kernel version has some sort of problem, but I don't remember exactly
what it was (I think it had something to do with a clock, either time-of-day,
or real time stuff). Updating to the newer kernels is high on the
"things-to-do" list, but hasn't happened yet. This leaves two paths for you
to take:

1. Switch to RH5.2/2.0.36/rtlinux_09J which gets you up and running as
quickly as possible. I got my CDROM burner going finally and could probably
get you a RH5.2 CD if you can't find one (it's not in stores anymore, so I
sympathize).

2. Try to get the 2.2 version going yourself if you know a lot about
programming and such. If you choose to go this route (and I'd be grateful if
you could) you ought to start with the latest RTLinux 2.0 release (for Linux
2.2.13) from http://www.rtlinux.org . They even have it as a pre-patched
kernel. You'd need to study the differences between the 2.0 kernel version of
the EMC releases and the 2.2 version. It might be possible to modify the
latest stable version (20-dec-1999) to work with either kernel version
through changes in the makefiles, compiler directives, and other mysterious
things I don't understand. Fred could incorporate this into all subsequent
releases and you'd be a hero!
