Hi Mariss,
A little more circuitous path, but it would work. You might consider
Yeager's Ace converter, or I'd recommend Vector CAD/CAM as a way to
generate Gcode. I think I even recall shareware programs to convert
Gerber to Gcode. I might be able to come up with something for your
Gerber files.
