I am doing just that! I have a bridgeport series 2 and a homeade
CNC 'Z' axis with a dial caliper to read the 'Z' distance. Had a
hard time drilling a hole in the hardened steel that the caliper was
made from and a harder time aligning the holes so that everything
tracked well, BUT IT WORKS GREAT. Found a 12" caliper for $69 bucks
from a mailorder store.
