Help with upgrading a robot

Thanks for the advice on my Robot,
There are 4 Sanyo-Denki steppers are up to 7.5 amps, I think I will
take the advice and use Gecko 201's to drive them. Then there is a
controller I will need and software.
Searching from the Maxnc5 page there is Software from Festo called
COSIMIR which retails at an enourmous professional price but it sounds
interesting and is worth a look.
I need to cut shapes with a knife on the end of the robots finger.
Rather than milling directions I really need signmakers vinyl cutting
software that will turn my knife at the corners, back up a little to
over cut the corners etc.
If this proves too dificult to assimilate with the circular
interpolation of the robot, I will have to pull it apart and build
make an XYZa machine.
Can anyone advice on a good controller to suit the Gecko drivers and
most types of software, G-code and other?
Many Thanks in advance
Regards Peter
