Taig vs ect

Hi
I just sold my max_nc. It is a weak machine that breaks down all the
time . It is not a servo machine as stated on there web site. There
customer service is CRAP.
I have never owned a Sherline. I always thought they looked to small
for my needs.
I have had a masters cncn (old cnc pro company) Table top bigerr
mill. The spindle at that time chattered from being very loose, So it
is gone also.

I have a taig now.
I just got it.
I bought it from Dennis at Supertech.
I bought the servo machine.
THIS IS THE BOMB!!!!!!!!
I have big machines in my shop. A kitamura my center 1 and an Arca
Centroid retrofit.
This machine after tuning it runs better than my centroid machine.
It is dead quite with the spindle off when moving The axis.
I got the backlash down to about .0015 on the lead screw nuts
(adujstable).
The servo system that Dennis has come up with is great . NO fault
errors ect. It is driven with gecko 640's. The motors are 2 amp
servos. They have more power then is needed for the machine.
I just ordered adujustable Precision rolled ball screws for this
machine also. These are the double nut adjustable type. (0 backlash)
Thats how I feel about the quality of the taig. The screws cost
500.00 for x and y axis . I will retrofit them soon and have a little
tank for a mini mill. I am machining g10 material in production. I
use a 3/32 carbide mill for machining. This will be NO strain on this
machine. I feel a 1/4 inch end mill in titanium or stainless would be
no problem with this machine. at the present time The taig does not
have coolant. It could be added with Dennis's set up .
He turns the spindle of and on with his controller and has another
outlet (10 amp) for coolant ect.

I can replace the x y axis down the road if need for under 400
dollars.
Dennis says his drivers will drive 7 amp motors if I want to use it
for another bigger mill someday.
I am a gcode programmer. So I am not in love with the super cam.
It is nice for folks who dont understand gcode.
The gcode is limited.
It will cut 3d ect.
IMHO the Taig is the bull and built good enough for production day in
and day out with a littel tune up .
It is not a lite machine by no means , but it has a bigger travel and
if retrofited with ball screws(0 backlash) I feel I can get .0003-
.0005 positioning we ease. This means I can cut a circle within .001
or so. NOT BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw..
The machine rapid in the present state is at around 45 imp .
I can take it to 60 - 90 imp the way it is.
With the new ball screws It will be going 140 ipm as it sits. The
rapids can go up to about 300 ipm if you feel its safe (I dont).
Ill be running it at 140 imp..
Total in the machine with the ballscrew ends machined to my specs
from rockford screw and the servo set up is about $4200.00 with the
mill. I will donate my time to machine the tables to accept the
ballscrews. This will be a tricky set up but can do it ...
I have very limited space or I would have bought another used cnc
from the market. So I had to come up with a table top that works.
For great accuracy you could retrofit the z if you wanted.
I feel that the machining 3 d would be up to the controller you
choose.
At this time I am looking at deskam deskwinnc.
It is standard AB gcode nist code ect. It uses a interface card for
the gcode. It has look ahead and constant countouring all the offset
g54 g55 ect cutter comp ect . Very nice for 200.00 dollars
I think Carl said 40,000 pulses also. Runs in windows.

One thing about maxnc that is good . The controller was just fine
with me. It read gcode great like a FANUC (THE REAL STANDARD IMHO).
It did not have constant countouring ect g55 ect but the gcode into
the machine was easy and logical.
