I'm trying to put a driver board for my Sherline together and I'm
having no luck in getting it to work. I'm using Gecko 201's on the
board and driving the motors with a 36V power supply. I have CNCPro
on a Sony Vaio notebook and am using pin 4 of the PS2/Keyboard port
to provide +5 power. No power is output to the motors when I power
everything up. Using a multimeter, I see +5.03V from pin 10 on the
Gecko to parallel port ground which is not wired to common ground.
However, when testing between pin 10 (+5) and pin 8 (Dir) the
multimeter toggles between 4.23V and 1.66V when I jog back and forth
with CNCPro. Disconnecting the parallel cable from the board and
just testing the PC, I see the Dir pin toggle between 4.97V and
1.73V. The parallel port is set up as EPC. Setting it to Normal
made no difference and bi-directional didn't work at all. The PS/2
port in enabled for dual use whatever that means. I'm stumped. Any
ideas?
