Hi, i just finnished pulling the teeth off an old horizontal mill cutter. On the tool bit is stamped 9-8-17 H.S.#12........anybody know what tool steel it is. it was used in a factory to put flats on roll shafts, and when they went out of biz another company used them for the same purpose. I have to assume the 9-8-17 is probably the year 1917, yep been working for a long time. I plan to reuse the tool steel teeth in a holder and use/grind them for form tooling for wood turning. i think when new these teeth were 1 1/2 tall and 3 inches wide and 5/16 thick. Thanks brian f.
