a Sherline dealer. The lever/ram tailstock on the Taig is a joke. It is
virtually impossible to accurately control your depth when you use it to
bore a hole. The dinky drive belt was continually slipping on me when I
was trying to bore 1/4" diameter holes into wood. The tiny cross feed
crank was hard to be accurate with. The 3 jaw chuck just did not tighten
down snuggly in an easy manner. I could go on, but the Taig lathe was a
disappointment to me. I owned one for a number of years after I sold my
original Sherline unit. The happiest day with it was the day I sold it.
The Sherline is a pleasure to use in comparison. The Sherline is also
very easy to convert to CNC and with the factory kit it can be done in
about an hour. I have seen conversions done to the Taig, but it looks
like it would take many days of custom work and still not be as solid.
As I said I have not experience with the Taig mill and have been told by
a number of users that it is a very nice unit with the exception of the
motor.
