Maybe. You'd want to use a VERY low inductance coil, or it would
prevent the huge current pulse
from the capacitor discharge that makes EDM work. You'd also want the
plunger of the solenoid to
be very light, so that the action would repeat at a very high rate.

But, if you can get the flushing of chips working, and get everything
set up just right, it really goes
all by itself! It starts to buzz at several hundred times a second, and
removes a lot of material
quickly (at least in EDM terms).
