Just bore a shallow recess 1.5" diameter to accept the register on
the stepper motor. This will allow you to always get this lined up
centrally . Then bore the hole thru large enough for the coupling to
enter. There is no need to open the hole up to the full 1.5" if you
feel it wil weaken the design.
