RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Bitmap to G-Code Converter Wanted

to be perfectly honest, the 'best' image to vector format converter i have
seen is the mouse (or in my case, the track ball) i import the bitmap (or
jpg) and just draw right over it. all the converters i have used make
errors... i have never found one to work correctly (but perhaps i haven't
tried hard enough). i did a while ago find a bitmap to 3d-dxf translator
(hieght field) that translated the shade of grey to a depth in the 3d-mesh.
it was tforge, and it was free and very powerfull. from the 3d-dxf you can
use stltrans to make is a stl file, which one of the 200 dollar pieces of
software could then turn into g-code for a 3d mill using a ballnose mill.
the software was stl... something think it was stlworks. i got a demo, and
it worked ok.
again, i believe that redrawing it is so much better, as you dont add errors
to it and you can interpret the design intent. hope that helps---dave l.
