CAD & CAM applications

I'm at a bit of a stumbling block here guys. With my Acumotion CNC purchase
I got a demo version of a CAD program called DeltaCad (I later bought it)
and the CNC G&M code converter and stepper driver program called My T'Mill.
The CAD program only does 2D which in itself is not a problem. My problem
lies more in the My T' Mill program. First it apparently doesn't understand
splines so I just lose them on a .dxf import of a DeltaCad drawing (and
DeltaCad apparently can't explode splines). More importantly the My T'Mill
seems to have quite a time with G41 and G42 commands. It works great as
long as you keep the drawing very simple. Anything even close to complex
and it goes crazy. To be honest I don't want to be stuck with milling boxes
forever.
I downloaded the demo version of VisualMill (only $4,000 should I decide I
have to have it) I saw in a post but it won't let you save anything. The
'free' older version 3 of Visual Mill discussed previously, says it will
import .dxf files but it won't.
So, to make a long story longer......Thus far I don't have a problem with my
current CAD program. I may in the future as it only does 2D drawings but I
think I need a different G code compiler and CNC driver app. Anyone have
any tried and true recommendations for either that fit well withing the 'I'm
by no means rich, this is just a hobby' purchase price?

Thanks,

Mark
