Yes, it most likely can be. Most of the HP printers that have rotary or
linear encoders use
a quadrature scheme. You will have to figure out the pinout, however.
It might be possible
to trace the wiring on the printer main circuit board to figure out
which wires are +5
and ground. It may also be a standard HP encoder read head.
