Several years ago I worked on an old XRF spectrometer, that used a
rotating nut, The nut was made by using 3 sections of threaded rod
mounted in a triangular patern around the main threaded rod, and this
assy was rotated on a stationary threaded rod to move it. It also had a
similar nut using ball bearings to support the small sections of rod and
turned the nut move that one.
