Hi Jason:
"Lead" refers to the distance a nut will travel in one revolution of the
screw.
On a single start screw(only one groove for the balls to track in) the lead
is the same as the pitch.
On a multistart screw the lead will be a multiple of the pitch, and the
multiplier will be the number of starts.
So a screw with three grooves around its periphery will have a lead that is
three times the pitch.
Multistart screws are useful if high forces must be absorbed on components
that are accelerating or decelerating quickly.
