Parallel Port Problems ?

Hi Guys,
I just hooked up my Xylotex driver board and only my Y axis works
correctly and reliably. My X axis will move but only CW regardless
whether I select a + move or a - move. The Y axis works correctly
only occasionally but usually like the X.
I'm using Master 5.
I tested my entire set-up on my friends computer , including the
cable, and it worked fine.
I've seen some references to PC parallel ports sometimes not working
out. I am using a Compaq Presario 650mhz with the parallel port on
the motherboard. The output pin voltages are 3.36 volt if that is
significant.
Thanks for help with this most basic question !
