I was very surprised to see this site. Like Dan Mauch, I have
corresponded with Dan Hudgins on and off over the years and found him to
be, well, a little out there. I actually got to spent a day with him
back in 1997. We went to the San Francisco science exhibition together.
He blew me away when I found he knew the theory behind every
exhibit--very smart guy. He also demonstrated his 'new' version of
Dancad/Dancam which he was working on at the time. Along with adding
Solid modeling features to Dancad, he had already added FULL G CODE
SUPPORT to dancam. He also had finished an engraving feature where
Dancad could import a TIF file and convert it to a tool path. He demoed
it on a picture of my wife. What was really interesting was he was
tired of supporting Dancad/cam and intended to make his new version
FREEWARE. I left that trip very excited, expecting to see a beta
version of 'Dancad97' in a few months. Instead, a few months later he
replied to an email inquiry I placed about it with a message saying
'don't bother me for 1 year'. That's the last I heard of him, until
now. Hopefully, Dan will finish what he had in 97 and post it on
Dancad3d.com. But Dan Mauch is right... don't hold your breath.
