Anybody got info on Pilz PX T40 control panel ?

I've obtained a surplus display / control panel from a dealer,
made by Pilz (of Germany) in about 1992. It looks ideal for
a DRO or CNC control panel - it has 2x40 5mm VFD , a numeric
pad and a row of function keys all on a 19" rack mount panel.
Keys are membrane type. It's labelled 'PX T40' and 'PXT 40-40
PX-Bedientab'.

Interface is both RS232 and RS485 and the unit runs off 24V.
It lights up with a test pattern on powerup, but I haven't got
it to communicate on RS232 yet.

Is anyone familiar with these displays ? I'm not sure whether
they need initialisation or some sort of packet protocol to
get them talking. There's no relevant info. on Pilz's website,
but I haven't asked them directly yet.

If anyone's interested, I may be able to re-contact the dealer
and get some more panels. They're very cheap : most of the cost
should be shipping (they weigh 2kg and I'm in the UK).
