How about simple pre-loading of the table? I have not tried this on x
and Y axis yet, but when I converted my mini mill to CNC using the Z-
axis microfeed for stepper motor drive, I had almost 60 thou of
backlash. I reduced this to 1 or 2 thou by simply removing the Z-axis
torsion arm, thereby providing a pre-load.
