Hey folks,
For the Sherline CNC Mill enthusiasts:
There is a very possible candidate for a ballscrew on the Z axis (vertical) now.
See http://www.jena-tec.com
They have a line of miniature ballscrews in 8mm dia with 16.5mm dia nuts.
Pitches available as of this week are 1, 2 & 2.5mm RH only.
Ballnuts are all round with internal ball circuits (flopover design) and a smaller
threaded nose to mount a securing bracket to.
The Sherline column may have to be milled out, but only slightly
and the screw end will have to be machined for bearings, pulley, etc.
Length is 300mm, so there is plenty of material to play with here.
The sales guy just left here promising a borrower sample screw to be sent.
Prices for the .002"/foot accuracy screw (grade 7) are competitive and reasonable.
The price break is at 10 units.
I will keep you posted.
