CNCPro questions

I can reliably perform coordinated moves at 40 in/min. This corresponds to
about 10,000 steps/sec on my 486. I suspect higher rates are possible but
haven't gone there yet. However, when I turn constant contouring on the
system will not handle more that 15 in/min. Above that the motors hammer
and lose steps. Could the look-ahead feature be taking so much processing
time, or have I overlooked something?
I have not yet hooked up the limit switches because I want to put them in
series with IR slot sensors mounted on the back of the motors. Configured
thus, the limit switch will allow the slot sensor to act as an index pulse
at one table position. I am hoping this will give me better repeatability
in the homing sequence. Has anybody tried this? How good is CNCPro at
latching the limit signal?
