I have bench tuned quite a few G320/G340 w/o a scope
I machined some hand wheels that weigh a couple lbs for the various
motors that I sell.
I install the handwheel and use it as a flywheel.
I turn up the gain until the handwheel feels stiff as possible without
faulting. Figure on adjusting the dampening about the same amount as the
gain trimpot was.
If the motor starts to vibrate just sitting there with the handwheel
then you have the gain/ dampening set to high and need to reduce it.
Set up the software and try running the motor. If it stops then hammers
hard, first reset the drive and then turn down the dampening because you
have it overdamped. If it comes to a stop and sort acts mushy, then you
have it underdamped.
The trick is to keep on adjusting the acceleration/deceleration on the
software for the best performance and continue to adjust the gheckos for
optimum performance likewise using the above as a guide observe the
gecko's performance and adjustin it so it operates snappily without
hammering/ fluttering or vibrating.

Is tuning Gecko servo drives w/o a scope hard to do? Would having a
scope make a big difference on how well I would be able to tune them
to the motors?
