ballscrews...

Just got off the phone with Thomson and Nook checking prices on 5/8"
rolled ballscrews, particularly in the left hand thread that would
keep the lathe operation 'normal'.

I think I'm going to go with Nook rather than Thomson, because while
their nuts are also 1" sqaure, they round the corners off to a 1.2"
diameter, which will make it easier to shoehorn them into the channel.
They have the left hand parts at comparable prices. Precision .001"
RH screws are not much more expensive, except that the shortest stock
length is 4ft.

My dilemma for the moment is if I should spend around $65 on a pair of
nuts and make my own preload, or buy a double nut with preload from
them for $150. Alternately, I could give up the LH operation and get
a one-piece preloaded nut for the precise RH screw for $190.

Time to go machine a mockup and try sliding it through the channel
where these have to fit...
