Hi,
The G201-IP originally was to be a short-circuit protected G201. The
scope of the design has grown to include other features as well.
These additional features now include internal returned energy dump
capability, over-temperature protection, reverse polarity protection,
over-voltage protection (via a non-user replacable fuse / crowbar
circuit), miss-wired motor protection, etc.
In short, it is to make the drive impervious to any insult short of
saltwater immersion while operating. The idea is to make it
bulletproof.
These new features are based on careful analysis of returned-for-
repair drive data and reflects 99% of drive failure causes.
This circuitry is in the breadboard phase right now and is moving
apace.
