I decided to put my 2 cnts in on whether e E-stop should do a hard brake
on axis movement or not.
On a small machine it may not make any difference, but on a big machine
it does. I've worked
on the CNC equipmen tthat Belco ( http://www.belco-mfg.com/ ) uses for
their big tanks, the Dual Laminate series picture gives you an idea of
size. When they loose power their big mandrels are designed to shear the
bolts that tie the mandrel to the rotational shaft. This avoids dmaging
the CNC equipment.
