GECKO 201a not moving motor

Hi all,
if you have been following my delema, I found my NEMA34's did not
spin. They sang like they wanted to spin, but no movement. I could
hear the motor whine and increase in pitch as the pulse train
increased. set at 500 hz to start, 500 rate of increase to a max of
5,000.
I switched Gecko's, just moved all the wires from one to another and
presto ! works great.
is there some circuit I may have blown that would make a Gecko pulse
out, but not power the motor ?
1.7 volts stepper, 35 volt power supply
4.7 amps, series wired on 6 wire motors, 21K resistor (2.2 amps?)
