Power supply Question?

Hi,

I have seen the power supply design for Gecko drive. It is a simple
unregulated power supply with transformer,bridge rectifier,caps and bleeding
resistor. There is no over voltage, over current, or over temperature
protection whatsoever. Well, I live in third world country when the
electricity is up and down like roller coaster.

My question is:

1.Does unregulated power supply hurts the gecko drive when the voltage in
primary winding is not stable?

2. Will the use of switching power supply with over voltage, over current,
and over temperature plus 15,000 Uf cap perform better to protect the gecko
drive?

3. Will separate power supply for each axis perform better than single power
supply for all 2,3, or 4 axes?
