Probably the best thing is to get one-piece helical-slit couplers with
1/2" bores and
open them up to the desired diameter on the lathe. That is a 5 minute
job, I've
done that on some couplers I used. You can check Stock drive products
or WM Berg.
Possibly Burden's Surplus Center in Lincoln, NE or C&H Supply in
Pasadena, CA
would have such items, too.
