looking for CL driver

I am looking at building up another mill, and already have steppers
with optical encoders on them (free!). What (cheep!!)
drivers/controllers should i look at for controlling 3, possibly 4 of
these with encoder feedback? these are not servo's, they are
steppers, just like on the MaxNC 'Closed Loop' systems..
