I started out with a $20.00 import trim router. not sure if it as
ABEC-1 bearings or economy ones. luckily it is all of some sort of
metal as the rubber might have added costs. 2.55 inch body OD.
The biggest problem is that the internal collet taper is not ground,
but a very poor cut. I am thinking a dull champher tool as all the
gouges and lines make it a poor fit to the just as badly machined
collet.
I may grind the internal holder and make a new collet just for the
experiance.
I also will look for high precision bearings so as to possibly use
this as a tool post grinder for the lathe.
But your comments offer good advise to be wary of the internals of
the things.
