Less Frequently Asked Question (I hope)

Hi. I'm new here. Been lurking for a week or so, read the FAQ and all of
that. I'm seeing quite a bit of interesting information drift by, but
most of it seems "over focused" in terms of "how do I do this" without a
lot of context. For example, "What software so I use?" Depends... Or,
"What size servo should I use?" and so on. Depends...
Has anybody taken an informal pole of what actaully *works*? Like,
"Everybody who's actually CNC cutting, please list what you're using,
general cost and pros/cons." and then compiling a list. It'd be very
helpful to just know generally what classes of machines, motors,
controllers and software there are and which combinations have been used
with how much cost/success/failure.
Also, I'm still delving into the software requirements but there's one
feature I haven't seen in any package anywhere, especially the smaller
packages: namely some kind of software plugable hardware independent
output "nback end" to keep from being tied to any particular serial or
parallel port or what have you. Or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Jeff
