Ok Paul.

Thats more or less what Jon concluded.

My box must have been one of the first! T/G say that all boxes are
compatable with the original scales so if I could find another box
that may be the answer? Had thought of using a PC based display but
the o/p from the scales is this sine wave and all the pc systems I
have found up to now use the quad square wave(I think!)

Think my problem is in the signalling board area but what I am
struggling with is as it uses gates and invertors it is really
difficult to get your head around it without any gist of what the
circuit is trying to achieve. Even if I could find something similar
to look at it would help.
