Hi Joe,
You would have to ask Art. I know that you can use a pin for multiple uses,
although Art warns that there may be strange side effects.
The relationship between the speed for the axis is set up in the settings
for steps/rev, max speed, etc. you would have to search the master5 group
archive for emails regarding this.
Also, it would be worth asking Art and discussing this feature on the
Master5 group mailto:Master5@yahoogroups.com . I think it is a great idea to
combine the spindle with an extra axis. It is possible that Art could add a
M code macro so that the function of the axis changes from a standard axis
to a spindle speed controller. That way it could be used for threading.
Cheers,
Peter Homann

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Servo as a Spindle??
Peter, thanks for the info.
Can you share output pins with this spindle pulse train?
In other words having a 4th axis that is also the spindle motor?
What G-code activates this pulse train? How does the control know
the pulse train relationship to spindle speed and where is this set?
What happens if you give the axis a move command while the spindle is
running?
What are the realistic speed limitations?
I knew this was talked about in mach 2 but didn't realize it was
available in Mach 1
Thanks again
Joe V.
