You did the correct thing. You just copy it into the install directory
for Mach1/Mach 2 and then start the program. Art has had a problem with
his key generator at times. About 1 out of 12 of the licenses I have
gotten (I sell Mach1/2 licenses at a slight discount as an authorized
reseller) are corrupt and the program will display demo mode in the
about box. I now test all of the keys before I send one to a customer.

I would contact the person you purchased the license from and have them
get you a replacement license file.
