Bridgeport Series II Power supply

Has anyone here reused the 56v power supply that came with their
series II? Mine looks to be in good condition and instead of building
a new one I am considering throwing a dc bridge across it and putting
in a high value mfd cap. Should yield about 78.4V DC - exactly what I
need to power the Gecko's. The supply itself is very well laid out
and extremely simplistic in design - probably why it has lasted 20
years. BTW Tim, I have decided to name mine the "Iron Pimp"; it just
seems fitting.
