Some time back there was a discussion about fine pitch adjustment screws.
Couldn't find it before, but here is a link to the finest pitch screws I
know off: 200 tpi. These are sold as simple adjustment screws and in
micrometers heads.

NewFocus Inc. sells motorized screws with a piezo electric stick-slip drive
good for 30 nm resolution. For those who aren't familiar with the stick
slip principle, it works by slowly moving a part with friction drive, then
quickly moving the actuator back, fast enough to break contact and not pull
the part back. The steps can be made very small.
There are quite a few drives using this principle. Some are illustrated in
Review of Scientific Instruments, I don't have the references handy.
