Hi Mark:
I bought a used Defiance VMC in 1999.
The machine without toolchanger cost me $15000.00 USD and was the best
investment I ever made.
I earned the cost of the machine back in two months, and I've pumped close
to 300 grand through it since then.
I'm an industrial designer and a moldmaker, so I do this kind of work all
the time.
I haven't farmed out more than a grand or so to the Stereolith guys since I
got the machine, and my prototypes are far nicer too.
Sure is nice to keep it all in-house!!
If your machine is in good condition, you really can't go wrong for 5
thousand bucks.
On the other hand, if it's a junker, you can drop easily 5 grand into it
again.
Ask me sometime about "Marcus' Folly"...the original Monarch 10 EE from
Hell!!
